On 1 July Centrelink began applying the same policies to same-sex couples the same as to opposite-sex couples. The Alliance has been working with a broad coalition of organisations to lobby the Government to give older same-sex couples receiving pensions extra time and resources to adjust to new legislation. Although we have not been able to achieve our key demands, various measures have been agreed to by Government to ease the impact and to provide appropriate information to LGBT people.
