The National LGBTI Health Alliance has a vacancy for a Project Officer (Policy). The focus for this work is mental health and suicide prevention under contract from the Australian Department of Health and Ageing. Other policy priorities include ageing, and sex and gender diversity. The position is based in Sydney.
You are an experienced individual highly motivated and with a demonstrated commitment to improve health outcomes, including community development and human rights, for LGBTI people.

Position vacant - Membership and Information Services Officer
The National LGBTI Health Alliance is Australia’s peak national health organisation for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and other sexuality, sex and gender diverse (LGBTI) people.
We have a vacancy for a Membership and Information Services Officer. The focus for this work is administrative support for the Alliance’s national office.
You are an experienced individual combining very good office (including computer) skills, interpersonal and communication skills, and capacity to manage information.

National LGBTI Ageing Roundtable - EoI
The Alliance and ACON recently convened the National LGBTI Ageing Roundtable, held in Sydney on October 18-19, 2011. One of the outcomes of this unprecedented meeting of people and organisations concerned with LGBTI Ageing from around Australia was the proposal to set up an Alliance Ageing Working Group.

MindOUT! Stage One Final Report released
The Alliance has released the Final Report on it’s Mental Health and Suicide Prevention prepared by PwC (Price Waterhouse Coopers). The report includes the results of three surveys – LGBTI individuals, LGBTI community organisations and mainstream mental health services. The Alliance has released the briefing paper "LGBTI People: Mental Health and Suicide" written by Gabi Rosenstreich as part of Stage One of MindOUT! The paper can be read here.
The Alliance is now actively implementing Stage Two of the MindOUT! project. Two staff positions are currently being filled, with a Senior Policy Officer and a Project Officer (Capacity Development) due to commence in September 2011.

Drug Use in LGBTI communities
Research released on 27 July 2011 by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare shows that gay, lesbian & bisexual people* smoke tobacco more, drink alcohol more and use illicit drugs more than heterosexual people and people in most other social categories.
